Golf
Course Consulting: The
aim of the Golf Course Consultant (GCC) is to help create
a truly great golf course by utilizing to the fullest
extent possible the potential of a promising piece of
land. This potential is expressed in the site's location,
slope, vegetation, water features, soil types, climate
and orientation. The potential is also determined by economic
factors which include the cost of construction and the
potential return on the investment. Depending on the availability
of land, the GCC can determine if the land is suitable
for a full golf course, an Executive Par 3 course, a
Pitch and Putt course, a driving range, a mini-golf course,
or a combination of any or all of the above. The GCC can
then recommend a suitable Golf Course Architect (GCA)
to layout a proper course taking the land characteristics
into account. The role of the GCA or designer is the realization
of this potential under the constraints of design criteria
that separate the truly great golf course from the ordinary.

Site
Analysis: Site Analysis
performed by the GCC can determine a single characteristic
of the land, or it can determine many, such as elevations,
slopes, orientation, wind direction, plant cover, plant
types, ground water, surface water, watersheds, utilities
or lack thereof, roads or lack thereof, wild life, soil
types and condition, geology, geography, surrounding land
use, ownership, location, past or current use, assessment
or appraisal value.

Site
evaluation A Site Evaluation, if needed, is the
use, by GCC, of the raw data gathered in the analysis,
to make a determination whether a proposed use is valid,
from a design (or physical) standpoint.

Feasibility
study Also recommended is a Feasibility Study, which
determines the validity of a proposed use from an investment
standpoint, given the facts known about the site and the
proposed use.

Business
Plan. The GCC can also provide a comprehensive
Business Plan which enables the owner to determine the
profitability and feasibility of establishing a golf course.

Environmental
Impact Study (EIS). An EIS determines the impacts and calculates
their intensity of a project on the environment.
