The architecture of buildings along T.Shevchenko street from Nos. 26,12 (the corner of Pirogov Street) till No. 30 are typical for the middle and second half of XIX century. This street as it is now was continued in the 30th of XIX century according with the general plan of that time. It was called "Bulevarnaya", then "Shosseyny" boulevard, then "Universitetskaya" because the several buildings of the University appeared there (middle of 1850th).
The street was renamed in honour of Kiev's Governor-General D.G.Bobrikov. It has been bearing the current name since 1919.
The boulevard starts from Khreshatic street and finished at the Pobeda (Victory) Square (former Galitsky). The architecture of this area had been formed by the end of XIX, beginning of XX centuries. Its architecture is basically defined by multi-storey buildings.
These buildings replaced buildings of the middle of XIX century, which were built in classical style. Only buildings of former Arestantskie Rot (Prisoners' Groups) (No. 27), Supreme District Court (No. 16) (however considerably reconstructed in 1960th) and building No. 28 survived from this period. The boulevard was planted with lime- and chestnut-trees in 1842, but they were later replaced with pyramidal poplar.
The "Kempinski-Kiev" Hotel is suggested to construct in the center of the city in the middle part of T.Shevchenko Avenue.

The basic idea of the architectural solution is "Knyazhiy Dvor" ("Duke's Court"), which meant to reproduce the architecture of buildings of X-XI century (of times of Vladimyr and Yaroslav the Wise). The harmonic combination of different architectural approaches make the city's environment so special and attractive. One of the important tasks and objectives of this project is the preservation and improving of the historical environment of this part of the city.
